The Product
It’s an inevitable fact of life that with each carrot you cut, your knife’s blade slowly begins to bend and dull. A good sharpening stone can prolong its life. Unlike handheld knife sharpeners, this unobtrusive cone sits easily within reach on your countertop and is designed for one-handed use. The porcelain surface is at 15 degrees for a consistent sharpening angle, eliminating the risk of uneven grinding you get with handheld sharpeners. Just hold your knife at the same 90 degree angle you would if you were chopping on the cutting board, and come down gently three or four times along the cone’s surface to give your knife a razor-sharp edge, and your tomatoes a paper thin slice. The durable porcelain cone and sturdy base guarantee that sharpening will be a piece of cake. Not for use with ceramic knives.

The Designer & Manufacturer
Mayer and Thiele is Hannes Mayer and Ingo Thiele, a German-based design duo who are bringing low-tech back into the kitchen. Although their products are from the manufactories along Germany’s traditional “Porcelain Road”, their youthful designs are elemental rather than ornate. They successfully combine knowledge of traditional culinary techniques with high-minded design to create culinary kitchen tools that are pared down to the basics and utterly useful.
