The Product
Making a cocktail is a very hands-on experience, so designer Arne Jacobsen demanded that his cocktail shaker be made of seamless stainless steel. When he realized the technology didn’t exist to manufacture the metal the way he wanted, he helped invent a new manufacturing process. The flawless reflective surface of this cocktail shaker hides its inner workings - an interior removable strainer and ice guard - so when it’s not in use it blends in seamlessly to its surroundings. Dishwasher safe.
The Designer
Probably best known for his Ant, Egg and Swan chair designs, Arne Jacobsen’s style is a perfect example of Danish Modern style that emerged in the 1960s and is now considered classic.
A graduate of the Copenhagen Art Academy, Jacobsen won a silver medal for chair design at Paris’ Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs in 1925 at the age of 23. His penchant for innovative chair design hit a high point in the 1960s and 1970s, and his iconic chairs are continually coveted by new generations of modernists.
Also an accomplished architect, designing many of Denmark’s recognizable buildings, Jacobsen started his career as a bricklayer. It was working so closely with the elements that instilled a lifelong passion for materials. From bent-wood chairs to seamless stainless steel barware, his respect for the entire design process can be felt and seen in the objects and buildings he produced.
