The Product
The Old World meets the Far East in the Enzo Vase by Wetter Indochine. The vase’s quaint shape, with narrow, narrow neck and a ball-like base, has been cast in lacquer by hand by trained Vietnamese craftsmen. Fabric and lacquer are wrapped around a clay mold and dried over the course of several days, until the clay mold is broken from within, leaving the newly formed bottle shape. Layer upon layer of lacquer is wrapped around the form, sanded, and polished in order to achieve the desired thickness, smoothness, and shine. Though exhausting, the end product is worth the work: a lustrous vase with complex curves. Because of its handmade properties, these vases are not recommended for use with water. Not suitable for dishwasher or high temperature water.

The Manufacturer & Designers
Since 1998 Wetter Indochine has been bringing Asian style with a twist to the modern market. Run by Swiss-born Michael Kuehne and American Barbara Thompson, the recent transplants to Vietnam had backgrounds in textiles and fashion, respectively, before falling in love with the artistry and craftsmanship of Vietnamese housewares and design. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, the pair successfully translates traditional Eastern materials and techniques into unique objects that appeal to Western tastes as well.
